On Saturday 8th December, two of our Rollergirls, Steph (Gnarly Brown) and Sam (Trashbag) will be longboarding 26 miles along the A4 from London to Windsor, to help raise money for the Children’s Heart Federation.
The Santa Cruise – an event arranged by the charitable organisation, Longboarding for Little Hearts, will see a group of 15 longboarders take to the roads in their Santa suits and festive fancy dress costumes to help raise awareness of those suffering with congenital heart defects (CHD).
Longboarding for Little Hearts was founded by Dean Lake from Woking, whose daughter Olivia was born with a heart condition (Tetralogy of Fallot). At just 7 years old, Olivia required open heart surgery, in order to save her life.
Thankfully, Olivia’s operation was a success and to mark her first anniversary of good health, Dean decided to set up Longboarding for Little Hearts in order to help other children and families affected by CHD.
Steph and Sam have been helping Dean to promote the event via social media and have been working hard to raise money for the Children’s Heart Federation on behalf of Longboarding for Little Hearts. They have already raised more than £600 and are close to meeting their £750 target.
Steph commented, ‘We were really excited when we heard about The Santa Cruise. Both Sam and I love to skate and had recently taken up longboarding together, so we thought what better way to improve than train for a marathon, and raise money for a great cause at the same time? It’s been hard work, but we’ve been so touched by everyone’s generosity so far.’
Sam added, ‘We are both fairly new to longboarding and it has been great starting it up together. Finding this charity has been good to help raise awareness for a great cause. It’s also been a good way to get fitter and meet new people. It’s been really hard training but also so much fun. So far the support from everyone has been great and a lot of people have been generous. We would love to meet our target and we are so close to it so please donate if you can.’
